December 6, 2023 - San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that the Sheriff’s Sergeant involved in the Lethal Force Encounter on 
December 1, 2023, has been identified as Sergeant Shane Andersen.
At the time of the incident, Sergeant Andersen was working retail crime suppression in Victorville. Although this incident was not retail theft related, Sergeant Andersen responded quickly because of the extra personnel in areas where organized retail crime occurs. Sheriff Shannon Dicus said, “I am grateful Sergeant Andersen was not seriously injured but incidents like this remind us of the dangers our deputies face each day. In the last year, LFEs have increased to two a month.”
Sgt. Andersen was released from the hospital and continues his recovery at home.
