January 27, 2024 - Riverside County Sheriff's Office officials report that the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Investigations Bureau 
assumed the investigation and identified the suspect as Christian Chavez, a 36-year-old resident of San Pedro. On January 25, 2024, at about 2:00 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office’s Fugitive Warrant Enforcement Team assisted the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Investigations Bureau in serving a search warrant at a residence in the 900 block of West Channel Street, San Pedro.
During the warrant service, Chavez was taken into custody without incident, and items related to the shooting investigation were located and collected from the residence. Chavez was later transported to the Moreno Valley Sheriff’s Station for processing and was subsequently booked at the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted murder. The victim remains hospitalized in stable condition.
