March 9, 2024 - Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that a suspect is in custody after an investigation conducted by LASD Major Crimes Bureau in conjunction with the US Marshal’s Pacific Southwest Regional Fugitive Task Force into a fatal hit-and-run.
In the late evening hours of Sunday, March 12, 2023, 36-year-old Yesenia Sanchez and 35-year-old Virginia Saucedo, were walking together along Rooks Road near Rose Hills Road in Pico Rivera after attending a nearby event. The two were tragically struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on Rooks Road. The driver of the vehicle immediately fled the scene.
Ms. Sanchez suffered major injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene, while Ms. Saucedo suffered significant permanent injuries.
Pico Rivera Sheriff's Station Captain Jodi Hutak announced LASD Major Crimes Bureau and US Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force took the owner of the vehicle, 28-year-old Juan Figueroa Sanchez, into custody on Thursday, March 7, 2024. Suspect Sanchez was booked on charges of felony child endangerment and aiding and abetting a minor.
The case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for filing on Monday, March 11, 2024.
Investigators believe the suspect’s 15-year-old brother, an unlicensed driver, was the driver of the vehicle which fatally struck the victims. Due to his age, we are not authorized to release his name or photograph at this time.
Investigators believe the juvenile subject was transported by Suspect Sanchez to Mexico following the incident.
Investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the outstanding subject. Anyone with information, either witness to the hit-and-run or anyone who is familiar with the suspect’s family and may know the whereabouts of the juvenile subject, are urged to contact Detective Guillen at Pico Rivera Sheriff’s Station at 562-949-2421.
