Homicide in San Marcos 

May 17, 2024 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on May 15, 2024, at about 11:30 p.m., Palomar Hospital called the Sheriff's Department to report they had a 17-year-old male in the emergency room with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Deputies arrived on scene a short time later and were told the victim had been transported there by two companions.

Through the initial investigation, detectives learned a group of people were standing in the parking lot of a business center at the 900 block of Los Vallecitos Blvd. in San Marcos. While in the parking lot, an unknown vehicle pulled over on Los Vallecitos Blvd., and an unknown suspect got out of the vehicle, pulled out a firearm and fired several rounds towards the group. One of the people in the group, a 17-year-old Hispanic male, was shot in the upper torso. The two companions drove the victim to Palomar Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.

The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded and has assumed responsibility of the investigation. The identity of the victim is known but being withheld at this time. Currently there is no suspect information. The motivation and circumstances are still under investigation.
