May 24, 2024 - Riverside County Sheriff's Department officials report on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 2:10 pm, deputies from the Riverside Sheriff’s riverside county sheriff logoPalm Desert Station assigned to the Rancho Mirage Special Enforcement Team (SET) located a wanted vehicle that was used in the commission of mail carrier burglaries in the city of Alhambra. Rancho Mirage SET members conducted a traffic stop with the assistance of Palm Desert SET and Indian Wells SET members.

During a search of the vehicle, deputies located several items of mail belonging to 16 different victims, along with stolen checks, stolen credit cards, and burglary tools. These stolen items belonged to victims throughout Riverside County, San Bernadino County, and Los Angeles County.

The suspects were identified as 28-year-old Sixto Melendez and 48-year-old Mark Huguez, both residents of Los Angeles. They were arrested and booked into John Benoit Detention Center for conspiracy and multiple theft-related offenses. Deputies are working with the United Postal Inspection Service to identify additional victims. This investigation is ongoing, and no additional details are available.
