June 8, 2024 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Tuesday June 4, 2024, about 6:23 A.M., Monterey County Sheriff’s Office deputies Montery County Sheriff logoresponded to a residence along the 500 block of San Juan Grade Road for a report of a victim of a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies located a single victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim was transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

The suspect was able to flee the scene.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Investigations Division responded to the scene and immediately began conducting their investigation into this incident. Evidence was found at the scene of the shooting incident in addition to area surveillance.

On Wednesday June 5, 2024, Monterey County Sheriff’s Office detectives continued following up on this case’s investigative leads. The analysis of leads led to the identification of the suspected shooter. The motive is believed to be domestic violence related.

At about 11:50 A.M. on June 5, 2024, detectives located the suspected shooter in the 3100 block of Dunes Drive in the City of Marina. The detectives sought assistance from additional Monterey County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies and officers of the City of Marina Police Department. All worked as a team to arrest the suspect successfully and safely at Marina State Beach without incident or injury.

Jose Sebastian, age 31, of Salinas, California has been booked into the Monterey County Jail per Penal Code 664/187(a)-Attempted Murder, Penal Code 29800(a)(1)-Felon in Possession of Firearm, and related charges. Bail is currently set at $1,000,000 dollars.
