Arrest Made for Illegal Possession of Firearm 

June 9, 2024 – Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on June 4, 2024, detectives with the Pre-Trial Detention Services Classification Unit, West County Special Enforcement Unit, and Headquarters Patrol Station arrested Alex Nunez and Debbie Lopez on firearm-related charges.

On May 22, 2024, detectives from the Pre-Trial Detention Services Classification Unit obtained information about a suspect who was illegally in possession of a firearm and who made statements of wanting to use it against law enforcement.  Based on this information, an investigation was launched to locate the firearm and any outstanding suspects involved.  During the investigation, detectives identified Alex Nunez and Debbie Lopez as the possessors of the firearm.

On June 4, 2024, the Pre-Trial Detention Services Classification Unit, West County Special Enforcement Unit Detectives, and Headquarters Station Detectives served a residential search warrant in the 100 Block of Los Angeles Avenue in the city of Oxnard.  As a result of the search warrant, a loaded firearm was recovered.  Lopez was contacted at the location and arrested for the following charges:

PC 27545 - Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm

PC 29800(a)(1) - Own/Possess/Control Firearm by Felon or Addict

PC 30305(a)(1) - Person Prohibited from Possession a Firearm Possess Ammunition

PC 2580(c)(6) - Carrying a Loaded Firearm/Not Registered Owner of Firearm

PC 135 - Destroying/Concealing Evidence

PC 4572 - Ex-Convict in Custodial Facility

Lopez was booked into the Pre-Trial Detention Facility and later released on her own recognizance.

On June 5, 2024, Nunez, who was already in-custody at the Pre-Trial Detention Facility for unrelated matters, was arrested for the following charges:

PC 29800(a)(1) - Own/Possess/Control Firearm by Felon or Addict

PC 27545 - Unlawful Transfer of a Firearm

PC 30305(a)(1) - Person Prohibited from Possession a Firearm Possess Ammunition

PC 2580(c)(6) - Carrying a Loaded Firearm/Not Registered Owner of Firearm

Nunez remains in custody with an upcoming court date and $50,000 bail amount.
