Fatal Hit-and-Run leaves Pedestrian Dead 

July 13, 2024 – Van Nuys, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that the (LAPD) Valley Traffic Detectives (VTD) are investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed an elderly man.

On June 30, 2024, around 8:55 p.m., a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision was reported on Sepulveda Boulevard south of Haynes Street. A vehicle was traveling southbound on Sepulveda Boulevard when it hit a pedestrian crossing mid-block on Sepulveda Boulevard outside of a crosswalk. The vehicle continued driving southbound without stopping to identify self or render aid as required by law.

Paramedics of the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the male pedestrian to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The pedestrian is described as a male between the ages of 60 to 70-years-old. His identity will be held until next of kin has been notified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.

VTD Detectives are urging anyone traveling on or near Sepulveda Boulevard and Haynes Street on June 30, 2024, around 8:55 p.m. to come forward with any information regarding this fatal hit and run.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.

The public is also reminded that pedestrians must obey all traffic laws and cross the street when it is safe to do so.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender’s identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.
