Attempted Inmate Escape
August 21, 2024 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 10:15 a.m., an armed
correctional deputy arrived at the 26000 block of Cactus Avenue in Moreno Valley with a 25-year-old female inmate, Kimberly Gallegos, resident of Jurupa Valley. When the correctional deputy attempted to remove Gallegos from the vehicle, she fled through the parking lot. The correctional deputy chased Gallegos with his weapon drawn. During the foot chase, a round was fired into the ground by the correctional deputy. Additional deputies immediately responded and assisted in capturing Gallegos. No injuries resulted from the discharge of the firearm.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Corrections Central Investigations Unit will lead the investigation into the escape, and additional charges will be filed with the District Attorney’s Office. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Force Investigations Detail assumed the investigation into the discharge of the firearm. The involved correctional deputy was placed on paid administrative leave according to Department policy. This is an active and ongoing investigation. No additional information will be released.
