November 6, 2024 - LOS ANGELES – California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are searching for an incarcerated person who walked away today from a Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) in Los Angeles.
At about 2:21 p.m., officials were alerted that incarcerated person Samaki M. Tywman had tampered with his ankle monitor. An emergency count of the MCRP was conducted immediately, confirming Tywman was missing. CDCR’s Office of Correctional Safety and local law enforcement have been notified and are assisting in the search.
Tywman, 22, is 5 feet, 7 inches tall and weighs approximately 179 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt, black sweatpants and black tennis shoes.
Tywman was received on July 24, 2023, from Los Angeles County. He was sentenced to five years for discharging a firearm in an inhabited dwelling/vehicle/aircraft and second-degree robbery. He has been housed at MCRP Los Angeles County since Aug. 6, 2024.
Anyone who sees Tywman or has knowledge of his whereabouts should immediately contact law enforcement, call 911, or contact Special Agent Abraham Villasenor at (760) 936-1851.
The MCRP allows eligible offenders committed to state prison to serve the end of their sentences in the reentry center and provides them the programs and tools necessary to transition from custody to the community. It is a voluntary program for incarcerated men who have two years or less left to serve. The program links them to a range of community-based rehabilitative services that assist with substance use disorders, mental health care, medical care, employment, education, housing, family reunification and social support.
Since 1977, 99 percent of the incarcerated people who have escaped or walked away from an adult institution, camp, in-state contract bed or Community Rehabilitative Program Placement have been apprehended.
