January 21, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at san diego county sheriff department logoapproximately 6:52 p.m. deputies with the North Coastal Sheriff's Station responded to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian that occurred in the 900 block of North Coast Highway 101, in the City of Encinitas.

Preliminary information indicates that a sport utility vehicle, possibly light in color, struck the pedestrian in the roadway. The driver immediately fled the scene. The 66-year-old female pedestrian was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The cause of the crash is currently still under investigation.   

It is unknown if the use of alcohol or drugs is a factor in this ongoing investigation.
