Deputy Involved Shooting Update 

January 31, 2025 – San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office officials report the release of new information in the Deputy San Luis Obispo Sheriff logoinvolved shooting which occurred on January 29, 2025, in Templeton.

The suspect in that incident has been identified as 37-year-old Thomas Farrell of Templeton.

On January 29, 2025, Deputies responded to a report of shots heard in the 1200 block of S. Main Street, near the area of Templeton High School. Based on the investigation by Detectives in the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit, Farrell fired shots at the first patrol unit to arrive on scene hitting the vehicle multiple times. As a result of that action, Farrell has now been booked into custody on two counts of attempted murder. The Deputies in that unit were not injured.

A second patrol unit arrived on scene seconds later and a Deputy in that unit engaged with Farrell and the suspect was struck by gunfire. Deputies administered medical aid to Farrell before he was transported to a local hospital. The suspect remains in stable condition. No Deputies in the second unit were injured.

Per the Sheriff's Office protocol for these types of incidents, all four Deputies involved have been place on administrative leave and are required to attend mandatory crisis counseling.

Detectives believe this was an isolated incident. There was no connection to Templeton High School and there is no further public safety risk.
