February 26, 2025 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Monday, February 24, 2025, San Bernardino County Sheriff logoat about 12:41 a.m., a deputy from the Victorville Sheriff’s Station responded to the Chevron on Hesperia Road and contacted Roman Huerta.  Huerta was involved in a battery investigation, appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and was causing a disturbance inside the store.

During the investigation, the deputy attempted to detain him.  Huerta pushed the deputy and fled on foot. A short foot pursuit ensued, and Huerta was tased.  Huerta was taken into custody and was combative inside the patrol vehicle.  Huerta was taken to the hospital for a pre-booking clearance and was uncooperative with deputies and medical staff.  Huerta became unresponsive and despite lifesaving measures, he was pronounced deceased.  

The Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded to the scene and assumed the investigation.  An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
