Ghost Gun Arrest in Ramona

March 15, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that a man is facing numerous charges after he was found in possession of a ghost gun during a traffic stop in Ramona.

On Monday, March 10, just before 9:00 p.m., deputies from the Ramona Sheriff's Substation stopped a silver Chevrolet Colorado truck for an expired registration near the intersection of 10th and B Streets.

The driver, Brandon Nichols (24), was found to be in possession of a loaded, privately manufactured firearm. Unlike legal firearms, privately manufactured firearms are not marked with serial numbers. There is no way to track their origins or their owners, making it harder for law enforcement to investigate or solve a crime.

Nichols was arrested and booked into the San Diego Central Jail on charges of possessing an undetectable firearm. He was later released on bond.

On Wednesday, March 12, Sheriff's Detectives served a search warrant at a home in the 500 Block of D Street in Ramona. There, they seized machines used for manufacturing firearms, illegal magazines, ammunition, and various pieces of firearms. As a result, Nichols may face additional charges.
