Tequila Takeback: A suspected serial liquor thief with a taste for tequila had her mobile bar busted! 

July 6, 2025 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that Karen Mackey, 53, of Oakland was pulled over by Deputy Din and Deputy Perez on Bollinger Road in City of Cupertino last month.

Inside the car: 71 bottles of stolen tequila worth more than $3,000!

Deputies connected Mackey to a series of retail thefts at several Safeway grocery stores in Santa Clara County, California.

A records check revealed a $25,000 warrant for grand theft.

Mackey was booked into the Main Jail on the warrant and for theft with prior convictions. All of the alcohol was returned to Safeway.

She tried to take the party to-go, but our deputies brought it to a full stop.
