July 22, 2025 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that LASD Homicide Lieutenant Steve De Jong and the Homicide Bureau are urgently seeking the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect(s) responsible for the murder of Benjamin Ryan Castaneda.

To aid in this effort, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those involved.

On June 2, 2025, deputies from the Pico Rivera Station responded to the 8100 block of Broadway Avenue in unincorporated Whittier, where 27-year-old Benjamin Ryan Castaneda had been shot while driving. The suspect(s) pulled alongside the victim’s vehicle and fired into the driver’s side. Castaneda was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.
