July 26, 2025 – San Diego Police Department officials report that on
“Just like Vegas,” one officer said — but these weren’t casinos. These were illegal gambling operations hidden inside a home and a neighborhood market.
Fairmount Ave. (Azalea Park)
Early Thursday morning, SDPD officers, alongside SWAT, Vice, and the FBI Violent Crime Task Force—served a warrant at a private residence.
Inside, they found:
- 12 illegal gambling machines
- 2 handguns
- Ammunition
- Narcotics
- Over $1,000 in cash
8 were arrested on various charges related to gambling and narcotics.
Rocky’s Market (Teralta East)
Less than 48 hours later, officers discovered another illegal gambling operation inside a local market while attempting to detain a subject.
A warrant led to the recovery of:
- 9 gambling machines
- $477 in cash
- A replica firearm
4 were arrested at the scene.
These illegal gambling dens don’t just bring bets — they bring crime: drugs, violence, weapons, and constant disturbances for neighbors. SDPD is committed to shutting them down and protecting the communities we serve.
