November 7, 2025 – Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department officials report that Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help with information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect(s) responsible for the murder of Rhavan Jermaine Mitchell.
On Saturday, December 2, 2023, at approximately 4:15 a.m., deputies from the Compton Sheriff’s Station responded to the 1300 block of South California Avenue, Compton, regarding a gunshot victim. When deputies discovered an adult male, later identified as Rhavan Jermaine Mitchell, inside the residence suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite life-saving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Four additional family members, including a child, were inside the home at the time of the shooting but were unharmed.
Through the course of the investigation, detectives reviewed surveillance video and believe the suspect described as a Black male adult wearing a black hooded sweater and blue jeans was waiting for the victim to arrive home. The suspect fled the scene in an older-model silver sedan, possibly a Honda or Nissan.
Detectives believe this was a targeted attack, as the suspect entered the victim’s home before fatally shooting him. The victim is not believed to have been gang-related.
Family and friends describe Rhavan Mitchell as a young, kindhearted man with a bright future, whose life was senselessly taken inside his own home.
Harold Mitchell, uncle said, “Ravan was full of life, he had dreams like everyone else. He laughed that filled the room. He had a way to make people feel loved.”
LASD Homicide detectives urge anyone with information regarding this case to come forward. Any detail, no matter how small, could help bring justice to Rhavan Mitchell and his loved ones.
