ALPR Cameras Lead to Conviction in Violent Assault of Unhoused Man in San Diego
November 10, 2025 – San Diego Police Department officials report that on September 29, 2025, a man was convicted and sentenced to 6 years for a felony assault, causing great bodily injury.
The incident occurred nearly a year prior, when a 64-Year-Old man standing on a center median seeking donations was violently attacked. The driver turned toward the victim, grabbed his hair, dragged him alongside the vehicle, and then ran him over, breaking the victim’s leg.
Thanks to the help of our Automated License Plate Recognition System, investigators were able to quickly identify the vehicle and bring the suspect to justice. This case highlights the critical teamwork between SDPD patrol officers, detectives and advanced technology in solving violent crimes.
