Grand Theft Series - San Diego County

November 12, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that the Imperial Beach Sheriff's Substation and San Diego County Crime Stoppers want the public’s help in identifying and locating the suspect responsible for a series of grand thefts at county libraries.

On October 17, just before 11:00 p.m., an unknown suspect removed and stole a bronze plaque affixed to the exterior wall of the Imperial Beach Library, located in the 800 block of Imperial Beach Boulevard in Imperial Beach. The suspect arrived in a white 2005-2010 Chevrolet Silverado, placed the plaque in the bed of the truck and fled the scene.

The stolen plaque (similar to the one seen in the photo below) is valued at approximately $4,500.

Sheriff's Detectives say this incident may be related to a series of similar thefts in which bronze plaques were stolen from libraries in Lemon Grove, Rancho San Diego, Alpine and 4S Ranch.

Take a good look at these surveillance photos of the suspect. He is described as a bald White man, between 40 to 50-years-old and wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt, gray shorts and dark-colored sneakers.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a 2005-2010 Chevrolet Silverado, single cab truck with a steel front bumper.
