November 13, 2025 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that the Sheriff's Office and Poway Sheriff's Station continue to actively search for Cameron Johnson (18), who is wanted for various weapons violations.

On Tuesday, November 11, just after 1:00 p.m., the San Diego County Sheriff's Office Communications Center received multiple calls about a man shooting a rifle in an open field near Hidden Valley Drive and Birch Lane in Poway.

When deputies from the Poway Sheriff's Station arrived on scene, they contacted Cameron Johnson, who was dressed in military-style fatigues. During their investigation, deputies located an unserialized rifle in the nearby brush.

At this point, Johnson ran from deputies into an area with dense vegetation. Despite an hours-long search involving deputies, Sheriff's ASTREA (helicopter) and Sheriff's K-9s, Johnson was not located.

A search warrant was obtained for Johnson's home in Poway. Deputies found additional unserialized firearm parts and body armor.

Johnson is wanted for negligent discharge of a firearm, possession of an unserialized assault rifle and violation of a Gun Violence Restraining Order (GVRO).

The Sheriff's Office is using all available resources to locate and arrest Johnson.

At this time, there is no evidence to suggest Johnson (seen in this photo wearing military-style fatigues) is a threat to the community. There is also no information to suggest that he is still armed.

If anyone has any information about Johnson's whereabouts, call the San Diego County Sheriff's Office at (858) 868-3200.
