In-Custody Death 

November 17, 2025 – Riverside County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 6:18 a.m., riverside county sheriff logodeputies from the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility we alerted to an inmate having a medical emergency in the transportation area. Custody staff and jail medical personnel immediately responded and administered emergency medical assistance. Paramedics responded to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, and the inmate was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

At the hospital, the inmate’s health continued to decline. Hospital medical staff performed life-saving measures. However, his condition did not improve, and he was ultimately pronounced deceased by attending hospital physicians on November 14, 2025.

Investigators from the Riverside Sheriff’s Office, Corrections Central Investigations Unit responded and assumed the investigation. The inmate was identified as 61-year-old Michael Dupas of Perris. Dupas’ family has been notified of his death.
