December 26, 2025 – San Diego Police Department officials report that for the second time in one week, one of our K-9 partners was injured while protecting our community.

On Monday, December 22 officers responded to a radio call regarding a man armed with two large knives, swinging them at people and striking occupied cars.

While officers were working to safely de-escalate the situation and take the suspect into custody, K-9 Goraz was stabbed in his right leg, sustaining serious injuries.

K-9 Goraz was immediately transported to the VCA Animal Hospital, where he received emergency treatment.

Thanks to the quick actions of officers and the outstanding care provided by the VCA veterinary team, Goraz is making a strong recovery under close supervision.

The suspect was ultimately arrested. He now faces multiple felony charges related to the injury of K-9 Goraz and the threats posed to the public prior to officers’ arrival.

Like K-9 Bowie last week, Goraz put himself in harm’s way to protect others. These incidents are a sobering reminder of the real dangers our officers and K-9 teams face every day.

K-9 Goraz is now resting, recovering and enjoying some well-earned treats from his handler.
