January 3, 2026 – San Diego Police Department officials report that officers recently responded to a call in Paradise Hills after a resident reported hearing a loud pop inside her apartment. Officers learned a rifle was fired in the unit above, and the round entered the apartment below. The suspect left the complex before officers arrived. When officers later located the suspect driving away, the priority shifted to protecting the public from a person believed to be armed and dangerous.
The suspect fled instead of stopping. Our helicopter provided an overhead perspective while officers deployed spike strips to safely slow the vehicle and bring the pursuit to an end. After the vehicle stopped, the suspect refused to comply and exit. Officers used pepperballs followed by a K-9 to take the suspect into custody without serious injury. Officers recovered a rifle, a high-capacity drum magazine, ammunition, and drugs. The suspect was booked into jail on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
