Illegal Firearm Arrest in San Marcos

March 8, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Friday, March 6, 2026, deputies from the San Marcos Gang Enforcement Team (GET) stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation near the intersection of Autumn Drive and Tiger Way just after 2:00 p.m.  The vehicle was occupied by four juveniles.  One of the juveniles was found to be in possession of an un-serialized, loaded pistol concealed in their waistband.  Additionally, illegal substances and a large amount of cash were located.

Unlike weapons made by a licensed manufacturer, ghost guns don't have a serial number or other identifiable markings.  The lack of a serial number makes it extremely challenging for law enforcement agencies to track these firearms to their owner or maker, hindering or delaying investigations and crime-solving efforts.

The juvenile was arrested and is facing felony charges of carrying a loaded gun in a public place or public street and owning or possessing a gun without a serial number.
