Fatal Shooting Suspect Taken into Custody 

April 8, 2026 – Yuba County, CA – Yuba County Sheriff's Department officials report that on Tuesday afternoon at YCSD fatal shootingapproximately 2:50 p.m., the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center received a 9-1-1 call reporting an individual attempting to force entry into a residence. Shortly thereafter, the person breaking in fired a weapon, resulting in the death of an adult male.

Detectives responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Through witness statements and information gathered at the scene, the suspect was identified as 36-year-old David Lopez Martinez.

Investigators later located Martinez in the 1800 block of 9th Avenue in Olivehurst and attempted to make contact. Martinez refused to comply and barricaded himself inside the residence prompting the activation of the SWAT Team. Following several hours of negotiations, less-lethal forces were ultimately deployed, and Martinez was safely taken into custody.

Martinez was booked into the Yuba County Jail on charges of homicide and additional felony offenses.

The identity of the victim, an adult male, is being withheld at this time pending notification of next of kin.
