Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Arrests Suspect in 2025 Jail Death Investigation 

May 6, 2026 – Marysville, CA – Yuba County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on May 4, 2026, YCSO in custody deathDetectives with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office arrested Marcus Daniels, 39, of Olivehurst, in connection with a homicide investigation stemming from a 2025 in-custody death at the Yuba County Jail.

On September 8, 2025, an inmate experiencing a medical emergency was reported within the Yuba County Jail. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated by Yuba County Sheriff’s Office personnel, Jail Medical staff, Bi-County Ambulance, and the Marysville Fire Department. Despite these efforts, the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Yuba County Sheriff’s Office Detectives assumed responsibility for the investigation and conducted a thorough processing of the scene. An autopsy and toxicology screening were later completed, which determined the cause of death to be a fentanyl overdose.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives developed evidence indicating that Marcus Daniels was responsible for introducing the fentanyl that led to the inmate’s death. Daniels was subsequently taken into custody and booked into the Yuba County Jail for homicide.

This investigation remains active, and no further details will be released at this time.
