May 18, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Thursday, thankfully, determination once again proved successful as the Sacramento Sheriff’s Dive Team members located and recovered a drowning victim.
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team performs one of the most difficult and dangerous assignments in public safety. Recoveries in waterways such as the Sacramento River present numerous hidden hazards beneath the surface, including strong currents, debris, limited visibility, and ever-changing conditions.
Despite these dangers, our Dive Team continues to answer the call when families need them most. As the region’s premier public safety dive team, they respond with professionalism, determination, and compassion to help bring closure to loved ones during unimaginable circumstances.
As Sacramento County faces upcoming budget discussions, the Sheriff’s Dive Team and Marine Enforcement Detail remain at risk of being eliminated. These highly specialized units provide critical public safety services to our community and neighboring agencies throughout the region.
We encourage community members to make their voices heard and let the Sacramento County Board of Supervisors know they support protecting public safety resources and preserving the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team and Marine Enforcement Detail.
