Retail Crime Crackdown

June 18, 2026 – Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office officials report that an organized retail theft crew connected to more than 60 thefts across the Bay Area has been arrested following four coordinated search warrants last week.

The investigation, led by a District Attorney’s Office investigator working with the Sheriff’s Office High Impact Team, uncovered nearly $157,000 in stolen merchandise from TJ Maxx, Nike, DICK'S Sporting Goods, and American Eagle. Detectives learned the crew targeted retailers daily and resold stolen items at a local flea market.

Key seizures included:

  • $37,000 in stolen clothing from a home on Lewis Road in San Jose, along with firearms, ammunition, electronics, and thousands of dollars in cash.
  • $58,000 in tagged clothing and nearly $455,000 in cash from storage lockers on Montecito Vista Drive.
  • Nearly $5,000 in stolen TJ Maxx merchandise found inside an RV linked to the suspects.

This organized crew had been operating for years, with many thefts going unreported. Thanks to a crucial tip from TJ Maxx investigators, the High Impact Team successfully dismantled this retail theft operation!

Three arrests were made: Marcela Carrillo, 49, Erika Hernandez, 49, and Dario Escobedo, 53, all of San Jose. Additional suspects are still being sought. Our efforts to stop retail theft and disrupt these networks will continue.
