June 19, 2026 – San Diego, CA – San Diego Police Department officials report that on Thursday, June 18, 2026, at San Bernardino Police Departmentapproximately 12:15 p.m., San Diego Police officers detained an individual following a suspicious vehicle investigation near the Islamic Center of San Diego (ICSD).

The vehicle came to the attention of officers who were already at the Islamic Center around 11:45 a.m. The officers immediately shared information about the vehicle with dispatchers, who broadcast the information to surrounding units.

Northern Division officers canvassed the area and located the vehicle near the 4300 block of Derrick Drive.

Officers stopped the vehicle and detained the driver.

During the stop, officers saw a Nazi flag as well as a suspicious canister inside the vehicle. Out of an abundance of caution, the Metro Arson Strike Team was requested to respond and evaluate the suspicious item.

San Diego County DA Issues Statement on Islamic Center Shooting; Deploys Crisis Response Team to Assist Victims

The Joint Terrorism Task Force (JTTF) was immediately notified and is coordinating with SDPD.

At this time, there is no active threat to the Islamic Center of San Diego. The investigation remains ongoing.
