SDPD OIS – 4700 block of Pacific Highway, in San Diego 

July 5, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that the Homicide Unit is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in the morning of June 30, 2026, in the riverbed of the 4700 block of Pacific Highway in the City of San Diego.

At approximately 9:45 A.M., a man was contacted by San Diego Police Department (SDPD) officers during an abatement detail. The man was known, had a no bail warrant, and was a parolee at large. The man fled the area and additional officers responded to assist. The man was located and an officer pursued him. An officer involved shooting occurred and the male fled into a riverbed.  

SDPD Swat officers responded to assist with the search. The man was located and an hours long standoff took place. SDPD Emergency Negotiation Team (ENT) attempted to negotiate with the male. The male was taken into custody after a K9 was deployed.

No San Diego Police Department officers were injured during the incident.

The suspect will be booked for felony parole violation.

Per the Countywide Memorandum of Understanding, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office Homicide Unit responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation into the officer‑involved shooting. Detectives are collecting evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing all aspects of the event.

The investigative and review process for officer‑involved shootings is comprehensive. Once the Homicide Unit concludes its investigation, the case will be submitted to the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether the officer bears any criminal liability. The San Diego Police Department will also conduct an administrative review into the officer's discharge of the firearm.
