Subject Arrested for Multiple Felony Charges
July 7, 2026 – Ventura County Sheriff’s Office officials report that a subject was arrested for multiple
felony charges following an incident requiring the response of the Ventura County Sheriff’s SWAT Team.
On July 5, 2026, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Thousand Oaks Patrol Deputies responded to a report of a male subject threatening his elderly parents with a knife while making statements that he intended to kill them. One of the victims was non-ambulatory. During the incident, the Sheriff's Communications Center maintained an open phone line with one of the victims, providing responding deputies with real-time updates as the situation evolved.
The victims reported that their adult son, Aaron Lieberman, had threatened to kill them and was holding them captive inside their bedroom, where they feared they would be killed if they attempted to leave.
Due to the severity of the incident, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) Team, and Tactical Negotiations Unit (TNU) were activated and responded to the scene. Upon their arrival, SWAT team leaders assumed operational command of the incident. As SWAT personnel were preparing to safely resolve the situation, one of the victims told SCC that Lieberman began to light an article of clothing on fire. Believing the victims were in imminent danger of death or serious bodily injury, SWAT team members made a forcible entry into the residence. Inside an upstairs bedroom, SWAT team members encountered Lieberman, who grabbed the rifle of one of the SWAT team members. A use-of-force incident ensued, during which Lieberman was struck with a TASER and taken into custody without further incident.
Detectives from the East County Investigations Bureau's Major Crimes and Property Crimes Units responded to the scene and assumed responsibility for the criminal investigation. Based on the investigation, Lieberman was arrested for the following offenses:
Penal Code § 422(a) – Criminal Threats
Penal Code § 236 – False Imprisonment
Penal Code § 451(d) – Arson of Personal Property
Penal Code § 368(b)(1) – Elder Abuse
Penal Code § 69 – Resisting an Executive Officer
Penal Code § 148(d) – Attempting to Remove or Seize a Firearm from a Peace Officer
Lieberman was transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center, where he was medically cleared prior to being booked into the Ventura County Pre-Trial Detention Facility. Lieberman is being held on $500,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on July 7, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
