Carjacking Arrest in Lemon Grove 

July 29, 2026 – San Diego County Sheriff's Office officials report that on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at san diego county sheriff department logoabout 7:50 a.m., deputies from the Lemon Grove Sheriff’s Substation responded to the San Altos Trolley Station located at 1787 San Altos Place in Lemon Grove for a report of a carjacking.

The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was seated in the passenger side of their 2021 Dodge Ram 1500 when Israel Sanchez (30) approached and entered the driver’s seat. The victim attempted to push Sanchez out of the vehicle as Sanchez struggled with the victim inside the truck. During the struggle, Sanchez was able to shift the vehicle into drive, causing it to roll forward. Moments later, Sanchez exited the truck and fled the area.

Numerous deputies responded and established a perimeter around Sanchez’s last known location. A short time later, Sanchez was located in a driveway in the 1800 block of Lemon Grove Avenue and was detained without incident. The victim positively identified Sanchez as the suspect that tried to steal their vehicle.

Neither Sanchez, the victim or deputies were injured during this incident.

Sanchez was arrested for violation of 215(a) of the California Penal Code (carjacking). Sanchez was medically cleared for a separate, non‑incident‑related matter and will be booked into the San Diego Central Jail.
