UPDATE: Rural Crimes Task Force Identifies and Arrests Man Suspected of Shooting at BNSF Police Officer 

August 14, 2026 – San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department officials report that on Monday, August San Bernardino County Deputies Arrest Rancho Cucamonga Man for ...10, 2026, investigators from the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department’s Rural Crime Task Force identified Angel Castro as the suspect who shot at a BNSF police officer from a moving train Monday night.  An arrest warrant for attempted murder was issued and the investigation continued. 

On Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at about 4:30 p.m., while conducting an operation in the Cajon Pass, investigators from the Rural Crime Task Force, with the assistance of San Bernardino Police Department, located Castro, along with four coconspirators, travelling in a vehicle in San Bernardino.  A traffic stop was conducted, and all five suspects were detained.  During a search of the vehicle, tools used for burglarizing trains were located inside. 
 
Castro was arrested for attempted murder, cargo theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.  

Jorge Sarmiento Ochoa, Miguel Humberto Grajeda Carrizos, Jesus Jose Grajeda and Cesar Geovanny Grajeda Medina were arrested for conspiracy, cargo theft, and possession of burglary tools.  All suspects were booked at the Central Detention Center where they remain in custody.
