Officer-Involved Animal Shooting Investigation 

**The following information is based on a preliminary and ongoing investigation, which continues to evolve as investigators interview witnesses, review physical and electronic records, and analyze forensic evidence. The Department’s understanding of the facts and circumstances may change as additional evidence is collected and analyzed**

August 31, 2026 – Los Angeles, CA – Los Angeles Police Department officials report that on August 27, 2026, at around 8:30 a.m., uniformed officers assigned to Southeast Patrol Division responded to a radio call of a domestic dispute in the 11000 block of Towne Avenue. After conducting their investigation, the officers determined that no crime had occurred and concluded the call.

As the officers were walking back to their police vehicle, three unrestrained and aggressive dogs emerged from the property and charged at them while they were in the street. One of the dogs attacked an officer, resulting in an Officer-Involved Animal Shooting. The officer sustained a bite to his leg, and the dogs’ owner exited the property and secured the animals.

The dog that bit the officer was struck by the gunfire and subsequently transported by Los Angeles Animal Services to a local facility for treatment. The injured officer was treated at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department personnel and then transported to a local hospital, where he received medical treatment for puncture wounds to his leg. The officer was subsequently released from the hospital.

No additional officers or community members were injured during this incident.
