Monterey County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Homicide in Castroville 

September 7, 2026 – Monterey County Sheriff’s Office officials report that they are investigating a homicide that occurred Monterey County Sheriff Opens Investigation into Death at Monterey ...early Sunday morning in the community of Castroville.

On September 6, 2026, shortly after 2:00 a.m., Monterey County Communications received a report of a person who had been stabbed in the area of Merritt Street and Preston Street in Castroville.

Responding deputies located a person suffering from an apparent stab wound. Fire and emergency medical personnel arrived and immediately began lifesaving efforts. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where, despite continued lifesaving efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries.

During the emergency response, an adult male was arrested after interfering with emergency personnel as they were providing lifesaving care to the victim. He was later booked into the Monterey County Jail. This arrest is not being identified as an arrest in connection with the homicide.

Information regarding those who may have been involved in the homicide is limited at this time. Investigators received reports of four Hispanic males wearing dark clothing who were last seen running eastbound on Preston Street following the incident.

The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office is leading the homicide investigation. Detectives are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything related to this incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office. Residents and businesses in the area are also asked to review surveillance cameras, doorbell cameras, or other video footage that may have captured activity in the area before, during, or after the incident.

The identity of the decedent is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
