Stolen Vehicle/Stolen Dog Pursuit

October 16, 2026 – Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office officials report that on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at approximately 1:55 p.m., North Patrol Deputies received an alert from a FLOCK license plate recognition camera regarding a stolen green Toyota Corolla traveling on Elkhorn Boulevard. The vehicle had been reported stolen from the Auburn area the previous day.

Deputies located the vehicle, which was occupied by a female driver and a male passenger. As deputies attempted a traffic stop, the occupants switched seats, and the male driver, later identified as 38-year-old David Brocker, fled, leading deputies on a pursuit. During the pursuit, Brocker reached speeds of approximately 95 MPH and repeatedly drove into oncoming traffic, endangering other motorists.

At one point during the pursuit, Brocker accelerated toward an assisting California Highway Patrol (CHP) Officer. A deputy used his patrol vehicle to strike the suspect’s vehicle, preventing Brocker from striking the CHP Officer.

Despite this intervention, Brocker continued fleeing eastbound on Madison Avenue toward Manzanita Avenue before turning onto Auburn Boulevard. Deputies performed a PIT maneuver, but Brocker again attempted to escape by reversing into a civilian’s vehicle. The civilian driver was later transported to a local area hospital with complaints of pain.

Deputies ultimately blocked the stolen vehicle, and Brocker exited and attempted to flee on foot. With assistance from Sacramento Police Department K9 Buster, deputies quickly apprehended Brocker.

Both the female passenger, identified as 19-year-old Givanna Ybarra, and Brocker were transported to a hospital for treatment before being booked into custody.

The victim’s dog was inside the Toyota Corolla when it was stolen. Fortunately, deputies located the dog unharmed at the end of the pursuit.

Brocker will be booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, assault with a deadly weapon, felony evading, animal cruelty, theft of the dog, resisting arrest, and a Parole Hold. Ybarra will be booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle.
