SST LTRMay 6, 2018 - Based upon my experiences with our courts in Mariposa over the last several years, I find that they are at best very inadequate to meet the needs of Mariposa County’s citizens. My believe is supported by the 2017 Court Statistics Report, Statewide Caseload p.153, 155; (at: http://www.courts.ca.gov/documents/2017-Court-Statistics-Report.pdf). In this document, you will find Mariposa County’s judges rank 45th out of the 58 counties in the state in the caseload that they handle and complete. I find this to be intolerable and an excellent reason to elect Ed Johnson as our Judge.

Every year, we spend thousands of dollars to contract with out-of-county visiting judges because our judges are not as efficient as they should be. I believe that Ed Johnson would end this costly practice.

Mariposa County’s Courts failed to take advantage of their position at the top of the State’s list of Counties that could receive a new state of the art court house that the State would have paid for. Why was this money, which would have been of great economic benefit to our county, left on the table? Was it due to the inefficiency of our current judges?

Our courts have failed to take advantage of grants that are available to courts. In 2017, $25 million was distributed among California courts for innovations, but our Court did not apply. Again, money that would have benefited us was left on the table. Why did this happen?

I believe that Ed Johnson would correct the deficiencies in our courts and make sure that money that is available to us is not left on the table.
