10 27 17 SFCS Walk a thonSierra Foothill Charter School is kicking off its first Walk-a-thon. Students are busy gathering pledges in advance of the event, happening at Catheys Valley Park on Friday, October 27. Students will be walking and/or running around the field.

This fundraiser replaces both the Fall Festival and the letter writing campaign SFCS has held in past years.

“We just felt we wanted to do something different,” said Principal/Superintendent Mindy Bolar. “A Walk-a-thon gets students involved and supports our goals for health and fitness.”

The goal is to raise $5,000 to support the individualized, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM) instruction that takes place at SFCS.

“Connecting disciplines in meaningful ways through STEAM-centered instruction supports critical thinking and real-life application of learning,” said Bolar. “This approach is at the center of our instructional program.”

The community is welcome to contribute.

“We hope our community can get behind focusing fundraising dollars on further enriching learning experiences for students at SFCS,” Bolar continued.

If you would like to make a pledge per lap or make a flat donation, you can get in touch with any SFCS student or parent to sign up as a sponsor.

You can also make a flat donation online at the school's website: SierraFoothillCharterSchool.orgIf you choose this method, go to the Donate tab and then the Donate button. If you have a certain student you wish to support, type in this student's name in the "special instructions to seller" area.

Students who get at least 3 pledges will be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card. The class that raises the most money will receive a movie/popcorn party. The students who walk and/or run the most laps in their age categories will receive $25 gift cards.

“These incentives make it that much more fun for the students,” said Bolar.

Pledges will be collected after the event and are due by November 13.
