Green area is current Flood Watch

November 15, 2017 - The National Weather Service Hanford office has issued a Flood Watch for the following: Mariposa, Madera, and Fresno County Foothills- Sierra Nevada from Yosemite to Kings Canyon- Including the cities of Coarsegold, Oakhurst, Squaw Valley, Auberry, North Fork, Mariposa, Devils Postpile, Florence Lake, Lake Thomas Edison, Tuolumne Meadows, Bass Lake, Fish Camp, and Wawona.

FLOOD WATCH IN EFFECT FROM THIS EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY EVENING...

The National Weather Service in Hanford has issued a
* Flood Watch for a portion of central California, including the following areas, the Sierra Nevada below 7,000 feet, including in Yosemite National Park, as well as the adjacent foothills, particularly in Mariposa County and portions of Madera County near Yosemite.

* From this evening through Thursday evening.

* Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to develop starting late tonight in Yosemite National Park and nearby portions of the Sierra Nevada and foothills. The heaviest rain will generally fall during Thursday morning and into the afternoon hours.

* Debris flows, including mud slides and rock slides, as well as fallen trees are possible, especially near recent burn areas in Yosemite National Park and nearby locations. Burn areas include, but are not limited to, the Detwiler, South Fork, and Railroad burn areas. There is also the potential for debris flows near the Parkline Slab in Yosemite National Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
