Veterans

Veterans-Day-2014The children of Mariposa plan the traditional Veterans’ Day Ceremony each year for the veterans of their town.  Each November for the last 19 years, students from Mariposa Elementary and Mariposa County High School honor veterans with patriotic music and with their respect. Mariposa’s Keith M. Bertken VFW Post 6042 presents the flag, executes a 21-gun salute, and Neil Stonum plays “Taps.”  The Mariposa County Sheriff’s Honor Guard and MCHS Student Body Officers make special presentations.  Kindergarteners and first graders learn the sign language for “God Bless the USA,” and they practice with their friends on the playground so they can perform for their special audience.  Everyone claps as veterans stand proudly when the MCHS Band plays the branch music.  These things, repeated each year, hold an important place in the hearts of our children.

Join your friends, neighbors, the school children, and our veterans on Monday, November 10, at 8:30 a.m. on the Mariposa Elementary School playground.  You will see and hear things that will stay in your heart, too.
