July 11, 2018 - Washington, D.C. – Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after the Trump Administration announced over the weekend that it was suspending for the time being critical risk adjustment payments, cynically and incorrectly alleging that their decision was required by a court decision, which will increase premiums in both the individual and small group markets:

“Once again, Republicans are proving that they do not care how many families they hurt in their fevered obsession with sabotaging America’s health care laws.  Their latest assault on health care will significantly increase premiums for millions of hard-working American families across the nation.

“Far from being required by the courts, as the Administration disingenuously asserts, this decision is wholly unnecessary and deeply, purposefully harmful.  It is the latest sign that  Americans’ quality, affordable coverage will never be safe with Republicans in control of Washington.  The Republican agenda means gutted protections for 130 million people with pre-existing conditions, families pushed into shoddy junk plans or kicked off their coverage altogether and a future of soaring premiums and skyrocketing prescription drugs costs for all.

“The American people cannot afford the raw Republican deal on health care.  Democrats are fighting to give the American people A Better Deal, with lower health costs and better care for all.”
