Donnell Fire was the most active of the three large fires in the Southern Sierra outlook area, doubling in size with extreme, wind-driven fire behavior. Ferguson was active late in the afternoon between Foresta and El Portal, as it continues to move towards the Yosemite Valley pushed by west winds. Lions Fire remained relatively quiet, cleaning up interior islands and smoldering along the NW flank. Winds will lighten today, followed by stable air mass moving the area.
Light east winds today will provide limited relief to communities in the Owens Valley. Heavy smoke that has settled into all locations will take until mid-day to lift with the inversion layer. West winds will return this afternoon, shifting concentrations back towards Nevada. Stable air moving into the area tonight will cause heavy pooling into most locations this evening.
