August 8, 2018 - The Mariposa County Sheriff's office reports on Tuesday, August 7, 2018, at approximately 3:49 P.M., a  Mariposa County Sheriff’s Deputy responded to the 7600 block of State Highway 120 in Mariposa County for a report of a subject attempting to start a fire.

Upon the Deputy’s arrival an employee at a nearby business stated she witnessed the suspect, later identified as Ivan Flores of Oakland, California (who by this time had been detained by a responding CHP Officer) acting irrational, and had pressed a lit lighter against a tree on the side of the road.

Upon contact with Mr. Flores it was determined that he was in possession of a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine and he admitted to having smoked methamphetamine recently.

When Ivan Flores was asked about trying to light anything on fire he stated he was checking the moisture content of the tree.

Flores was placed under arrest and booked into the Mariposa County Adult Detention Facility for charges of 664/451 PC Attempted Arson, 11550(a) H&S being under the influence of a controlled substance and 11364(a) H&S Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Ivan Flores bail is set at $100,000.
