September 12, 2018 - A host of activities for adults and children are scheduled at an Open House celebration for the Republican Party of Madera County’s new elections office in Oakhurst.
The celebration is scheduled from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 40179 Enterprise Dr., A2, in the Old Mill Village next to Jack-in-the-Box.
The office will be open until Election Day, Tuesday, November 6, 2018, said office manager Jannai Pero.
According to Pero, the day’s activities will include visits from candidates and elected officials, two bounce houses, face-painting, crafts and games for children, food and beverages, musical entertainment, prizes and line dancing between 5 and 6 p.m.
“There is truly fun for all on opening day. We like to call it a ‘Patriotic Party,’” said Pero.
Pero also noted that free pocket constitutions will be available to students who visit the office on opening day through Sept. 22.
Constitution Week is normally celebrated during this time from Monday, Sept. 17 through Sept. 23. September 17 is the day in 1787 when delegates to the Constitutional Convention signed the document in Philadelphia. September 17 is also known as Constitution Day or Citizenship Day. This American federal observance has been called Constitution Day since 2004.
In observance of Constitution week, the Republican Party’s Oakhurst office will present a free viewing of “A More Perfect Union – America Becomes a Nation” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018. This stirring 2-hour film brings the Founding Fathers to life as you witness the struggles and the miracles that produced the Constitution of the United States – the freest nation on earth.
Filmed on location at Independence Hall, Williamsburg, Virginia, and other historical sites, it dramatically chronicles how America became a nation. A copy of the DVD will be available for purchase at the Constitution booth at Mountain Area Heritage Days also on Sept. 15 at Fresno Flats, Oakhurst. It can also be purchased from the National Center for Constitutional Studies at www.nccs.net.
