November 20, 2018 - San Andreas – With the anticipation of wet weather coming later this week, CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras would like to remind everyone that we are still in declared fire CalFireseason and that all outdoor burning is prohibited until the burn suspension is lifted.

Several residents in both Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties have recently been issued misdemeanor citations for burning debris. We will continue with our maximum enforcement throughout the holiday weekend and beyond to ensure the safety of the community. If you already have established debris piles, we suggest that you cover them with tarps to keep them dry until burning is allowed.

With the cold weather upon us, fireplace burning has become more prevalent. We remind everyone that the negligent disposal of hot ashes is a leading cause of fires near the home. Fireplace ashes can be hot for a week or more; a metal pail or bucket should be used to remove the ashes from the home. After the ashes are outside, they should be mixed with water in the bucket and left well away from any combustibles until cool to the touch.

Once the decision is made to rescind the burn suspension, we will ensure wide information distribution via various media outlets. In the mean-time please continue to call your designated burn line for information.

CAL FIRE Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit, would like to wish everyone a happy, healthy and especially safe Thanksgiving!
