November 27, 2018 - Washington - Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) on Monday released the following statement on the use of force by Customs and Border Protection against mothers Dianne Feinsteinand children along the California-Mexico border :

“It’s horrifying to see tear gas used on mothers and young children as they seek refuge in the United States. That’s not what America should be.

“These families have traveled thousands of miles. They’re exhausted, hungry and not a threat to national security. They’re simply seeking the opportunity to request asylum from the U.S. government and make a better life away from violence and poverty.

“These families are trying to cross the border because President Trump is refusing to allow asylum applications to proceed in the usual manner at ports of entry, leaving them languishing in Mexico with no end in sight. And now the administration is trying to bar asylum for those who enter between the ports, a violation of a U.S. court order. Our immigration policies must be implemented in a lawful, humane way.

“It’s clear the president is doing all he can to end our asylum system, which will do nothing to help our national security and is little more than a political tactic that will end up harming California and the nation.”
