December 28, 2018 - How are search and rescue dogs trained? What does a veterinarian technician do? Who helps animals during natural disasters? What is involved in becoming a dog groomer? How easy is it to raise bantam chickens?

These are just some of the questions that will be answered at the Mariposa Library’s upcoming free program “Working with Animals” on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 a.m.

Presenters include:

• Chrissy Tiner, who will bring Haley, her four-year-old German Shepherd, whom she has been training to do search and rescue work for the past year-and-a-half. She will talk about the work required to become certified by the California Rescue Dog Association;
• Beth Kellner from the Central California Animal Disaster Team, who will discuss the work the non-profit organization does to help people with their pets during disasters and also provide tips on disaster preparedness for people with pets;
• Tess Vick, a pet groomer for 23 years, who will talk about how and why she became a groomer, in addition to offering some pet grooming hints;
• Kelly Lund, a registered veterinarian technician since 1982, who will explain what it takes to become a vet technician and introduce one of the Sulcata tortoises she is raising to the audience; and
• The Sharrar family, who will talk about the rewards of raising bantam chickens.
