ABC donates to Decathlon students

January 17, 2019 - The MCHS Academic Boosters Club was happy to contribute $360 to teacher Alex Keeton to help get his Academic Decathlon students Tyler Mangan, Ramiro Paredes, Ava Dunlavey, and Kae Kimbro to a Tuolumne County competition this coming February.

The Academic Decathlon program is annual and open to all MCHS students. The team must have students in three different GPA categories (3.75 and above; 3.0 to 3.74; below 3.0) and only academic classes count.

College admissions officers say Academic Decathlon is the top extra-curricular activity for college admissions. Materials studied in academic decathlon often show up in college classes. Students who participate develop study and time management skills.

Every year has a different theme. This year’s theme is the 1960s. The students will compete in categories including art, music, literature, math, science, economics and history. They are also required to give a speech, be interviewed and write an essay.

MCHS Academic Boosters Club, Inc. (ABC) is a 501(c)3 organization with the mission of supplementing and enriching academic experiences and providing educational tools for Mariposa County High School students.
