June 17, 2019 - On June 7, Teena Starchman's third and fourth graders at Sierra Foothill Charter School had a guest speaker during science. Mr. Wayne Kelly, a retired teacher from Moss Landing, came for his final water safety lesson of the year. He taught students about sharks. They learned the various shark species, unique traits only sharks have, and even how to catch a shark playing a fun game involving a fishing pole and a skateboard. This was Mr. Kelly's third visit to Ms. Starchman's classroom. Previously, he taught students lessons on kelp and water safety.
SFCS 0097Jane Adcock plays the shark, David Barrena tries to reel her in, and Wayne Kelly gives instructions on how to hold the fishing pole as other students look on and wait for their turn.
SFCS 0103Indra LaRoche takes a turn as the fisherman and Zane Baumann plays the shark.
SFCS 0101David Barrena is having quite a time reeling in his shark.
